Overview

BIOD-961 is a dry powder (lyophilized) formulation of glucagon developed for use in a proprietary auto-reconstitution device designed to simplify and expedite the emergency treatment of severe hypoglycemia. The product is intended to be mixed with liquid in the device immediately prior to administration, addressing challenges associated with traditional reconstitution procedures during emergencies. Mechanistically, BIOD-961 acts as an agonist at the glucagon receptor (GcGr), stimulating hepatic glucose production through glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis. In clinical studies, its pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles were shown to be bioequivalent to marketed injectable glucagon products such as Eli Lilly's Glucagon Emergency Rescue Kit and Novo Nordisk's GlucaGen HypoKit[1][3][7].
