Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BioDiab is an orally administered probiotic supplement developed by Takgene (Takgene Pharma) and marketed by its subsidiary Novagen Pharmed. It is formulated as a capsule containing a blend of six probiotic strains: Bacillus coagulans, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, Lactobacillus casei, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum. BioDiab is designed to assist in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus and prediabetes by regulating metabolic activities and improving glycemic control. The probiotic strains in BioDiab work by modulating the gut microbiota, reducing insulin resistance, improving HbA1c and fasting insulin levels, and decreasing oxidative stress and systemic inflammation. Downstream mechanisms include the production of short-chain fatty acids (such as butyrate) and bile salt hydrolase (BSH) enzymes, which subsequently activate farnesoid X receptors (FXR) and stimulate the secretion of glucagon-like peptides (GLP-1 and GLP-2) to enhance insulin synthesis and secretion.
