Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BioFe is a medical food and nutritional supplement developed by Sidero Bioscience for the management of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia (IDA). It consists of a ferritin-based iron complex produced using nutritional yeast (*Saccharomyces cerevisiae*) that expresses high levels of H-Ferritin (FTH1), a natural iron transport and storage protein. This complex mimics the natural ferritin:iron structure found in human breast milk. BioFe utilizes the proprietary Siderosorb platform technology to provide bioavailable iron through an alternate absorption pathway that is not inhibited by inflammation (hepcidin-independent), potentially reducing the gastrointestinal side effects associated with traditional oral iron salts. It is specifically designed for patients who may not tolerate or respond to standard iron supplements, including those with chronic inflammatory conditions.
