Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BioFresh Clean S is an enzyme-based lozenge product developed by Novozymes A/S (now part of the Novonesis group) for the prevention and control of dental plaque and biofilm formation. The product contains a combination of three matrix-degrading enzymes: deoxyribonuclease (DNase), mutanase, and beta-glucanase. These enzymes work synergistically to disrupt the extracellular matrix of dental biofilms; DNase hydrolyzes phosphodiester linkages in extracellular DNA (eDNA), while mutanase and beta-glucanase cleave specific glycosidic bonds in polysaccharides. Designed as an adjunct to mechanical plaque removal, BioFresh Clean S has been evaluated in randomized controlled trials for its ability to reduce de novo plaque accumulation and gingivitis in healthy adults without causing adverse effects.
