Overview

Biolactis is a probiotic pharmaceutical preparation containing the lactic acid bacterium *Enterococcus faecalis*. It is primarily utilized as an intestinal regulator to improve gut flora and manage dysbiosis. In recent clinical research supported by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), Biolactis is being evaluated for its potential to suppress the colonization of colibactin-producing *Escherichia coli* (pks+ E. coli) in the human gut. Colibactin is a bacterial genotoxin that induces DNA double-strand breaks and has been strongly implicated in the pathogenesis and progression of colorectal cancer. By modulating the gut microbiota and reducing the abundance of these pro-carcinogenic bacteria, Biolactis is intended to serve as a preventive intervention to lower the risk of colorectal neoplasia and cancer recurrence in high-risk individuals.
