Biological amnion is a tissue-engineered scaffold derived from the innermost layer of the human placenta, utilized for its regenerative and anti-adhesive properties. In the treatment of severe refractory Asherman's syndrome, it is typically applied to the uterine cavity following hysteroscopic adhesiolysis. Its primary therapeutic functions are to act as a physical barrier to prevent the recurrence of intrauterine adhesions and to provide a biological microenvironment rich in endogenous growth factors and cytokines that support endometrial repair and epithelialization. The material is characterized by its low immunogenicity and anti-inflammatory effects. In clinical research conducted by The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, biological amnion is being evaluated both as a standalone intervention and as a delivery vehicle for human amniotic epithelial cells (hAECs) to enhance therapeutic outcomes in women with damaged endometrium.
