Overview

BiomeBank fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), marketed under the brand name Biomictra, is a donor-derived fecal microbiota transplant product developed by the Australian biotechnology company BiomeBank. It is regulated as a biological medicine and was approved by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in November 2022 for the prevention of recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (rCDI). Biomictra is prepared from rigorously screened healthy donor stool and is supplied as a frozen syringe-based suspension for rectal administration via enema or colonoscopy, with an oral capsule formulation (Lyomictra) also in development. Beyond rCDI, Biomictra is being evaluated in clinical trials and used under the TGA Special Access Scheme for various gastrointestinal and inflammatory conditions, including ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, irritable bowel syndrome, immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced enterocolitis, functional constipation, and primary sclerosing cholangitis.
