Bionanomatrix-CS is a peptide-based nanomatrix coating developed by Endomimetics for coronary stents to treat coronary artery disease. The coating is composed of self-assembling peptide amphiphiles that form a structure mimicking the natural endothelium. It is designed to provide sustained, local delivery of nitric oxide (NO) over a period of approximately two months. The mechanism of action involves NO-mediated inhibition of neointimal hyperplasia (restenosis) and platelet aggregation (thrombosis), while the peptide matrix promotes endothelial cell binding and vessel wall healing. Developed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Bionanomatrix-CS is currently in the IND-enabling phase of development for coronary stent applications.
