Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bionanomatrix NO-releasing Gel is an experimental, peptide-based self-assembling nanomatrix gel designed to release nitric oxide (NO) locally. Developed by Endomimetics (a spinout from the University of Alabama at Birmingham), the gel is applied perivascularly at the anastomosis site immediately following the creation of an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) for hemodialysis. It is designed to promote healthy AVF maturation and prevent maturation failure by releasing NO, which stimulates endothelialization (endothelial cell growth) and suppresses neointimal hyperplasia (smooth muscle cell proliferation). The therapy is currently in IND-enabling development.
