Bionanomatrix-OA is a peptide-based nanomatrix gel developed by Endomimetics for orthopedic applications, specifically for use in procedures such as knee implants. The technology is based on self-assembling peptide amphiphiles (PA) that form a nanomatrix with dual functionality: one component promotes endothelial cell binding to facilitate tissue integration and healing, while the other provides controlled, sustained release of nitric oxide (NO). In orthopedic settings, the gel can also be loaded with antibiotic-releasing liposomes (ABLipo) to prevent post-surgical infections and reduce the risk of arthrofibrosis. By creating a localized therapeutic environment at the implant site, Bionanomatrix-OA aims to enhance joint mobility and improve patient recovery outcomes.
