BioPropolis

BioPropolis is a commercial propolis supplement manufactured by Sigma Pharmaceutical Industries for International Business Establishment Co. (IBE Pharma). It is a natural resinous substance produced by honeybees from various plant sources, containing a complex mixture of polyphenols, flavonoids, and other bioactive compounds. In clinical research led by Mohamed Anees, BioPropolis was evaluated as an adjunctive treatment to scaling and root planing (SRP) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic periodontitis. Administered as a 400 mg oral capsule daily, it demonstrates antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antioxidant properties. Clinical findings suggest that a 6-month regimen can significantly improve glycemic control by reducing hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels, while also decreasing serum N€-(carboxymethyl) lysine (CML) and improving periodontal clinical parameters.
