Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BioRoot RCS is a bioactive mineral-based root canal sealer developed by Septodont, utilizing Active Biosilicate Technology. It is primarily composed of high-purity tricalcium silicate, which, upon mixing with a liquid containing calcium chloride, undergoes a hydration reaction to form a calcium silicate hydrate gel and calcium hydroxide. This process creates a highly alkaline environment (pH > 11) that exhibits significant antimicrobial properties and induces the formation of hydroxyapatite at the dentin-material interface. This bioactivity facilitates a biological seal and promotes periapical tissue healing. BioRoot RCS is designed for permanent root canal obturation and is often compared to traditional resin-based sealers like AH Plus for its superior biocompatibility and healing potential in cases of apical periodontitis.
