Overview

Bios Three is a probiotic combination product developed by Toa Pharmaceutical, containing three symbiotic bacterial strains: *Enterococcus faecium* T-110 (lactic acid bacteria), *Clostridium butyricum* TO-A (butyric acid bacteria), and *Bacillus mesentericus* TO-A (saccharolytic bacteria). These strains work synergistically to regulate intestinal flora; *Bacillus mesentericus* promotes the growth of *Enterococcus faecium*, which produces lactic acid and lowers intestinal pH, thereby facilitating the growth of *Clostridium butyricum*. *Clostridium butyricum* produces butyric acid, a key energy source for colonic epithelial cells that supports intestinal barrier function. The product is approved in Japan for the treatment of gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal bloating. It is also being investigated in clinical trials for its potential to modulate the intestinal and vaginal microbiota in pregnant women to prevent pregnancy-associated complications.
