BIOS2207 is an investigational small molecule potassium channel opener developed by Zhejiang Saimo Pharmaceutical for the treatment of epilepsy. It acts as a selective positive allosteric modulator of the KCNQ2/3 (Kv7.2/Kv7.3) voltage-gated potassium channels. These channels are responsible for the M-current, which regulates neuronal excitability; mutations or dysfunction in these channels are linked to various forms of epilepsy, including KCNQ2-related encephalopathy. By promoting the open state of these channels, BIOS2207 stabilizes the neuronal resting membrane potential and suppresses repetitive firing, thereby providing an anticonvulsant effect. The drug is currently in early-stage clinical development in China, following IND approval for the treatment of epilepsy.
