**BioSeed-C** is a scaffold-assisted autologous chondrocyte implantation product for focal articular cartilage defects of the knee. It is a second-generation, tissue-engineered somatic cell therapy in which a patient's own articular chondrocytes are harvested from a non-weight-bearing knee region, expanded under GMP conditions, embedded in fibrin, and seeded into a three-dimensional bioresorbable polyglactin and polydioxanone scaffold. The implanted graft provides mechanically stable delivery of viable chondrocytes to the cartilage defect, supporting chondrocyte redifferentiation, extracellular-matrix formation, and repair of hyaline-like articular cartilage. BioSeed-C was developed through research associated with Charité and University Hospital Freiburg and has reported clinical and MRI follow-up data extending to 12 years after implantation.
