Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BioSponge is a veterinary intestinal adsorbent supplement based on smectite clay and marketed for management of gastrointestinal disease, especially diarrhea, in animals such as horses, dogs, cats, cattle, and small ruminants. Rather than acting through a receptor-mediated pharmacologic pathway, it works locally within the gut lumen by physically adsorbing bacterial toxins, microbes, and other noxious molecules, including clostridial toxins associated with *Clostridium difficile* and *Clostridium perfringens*. It is manufactured by Platinum Performance and is best characterized as a non-pharmaceutical veterinary supplement or nutraceutical rather than an FDA-reviewed drug.
