Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BIOSTEP is a collagen matrix wound dressing developed by Smith+Nephew, designed for the management of chronic and acute wounds. It is composed of a porcine collagen matrix that functions by deactivating excess matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are often elevated in chronic wounds and can impede the healing process. By modulating the wound environment and maintaining a moist balance for up to six days, BIOSTEP promotes the formation of granulation tissue. It is indicated for various wound types, including pressure injuries, diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and burns. A version containing silver, BIOSTEP Ag, is also available for wounds where bacterial control is required.
