BIOSTEP Ag

BIOSTEP Ag is a collagen matrix wound dressing manufactured by Smith & Nephew. It is a medical device that combines type 1 and denatured porcine-derived collagen, silver, sodium alginate, and carboxymethylcellulose. The dressing is designed to manage chronic wounds by targeting and deactivating excess matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) while providing sustained antibacterial activity through the release of silver. It also contains EDTA as an MMP modulating agent. BIOSTEP Ag is indicated for the management of various wound types, including pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, venous ulcers, first and second-degree burns, and surgical wounds. It features a 6-day wear time, allowing for prolonged control of the wound environment.
