Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Biotène Oralbalance Mouth Gel is an over-the-counter (OTC) topical oral gel designed to provide long-lasting relief for symptoms of xerostomia (dry mouth) and oral mucositis. Developed and marketed by GSK, the formulation contains a specialized enzyme system consisting of lactoperoxidase, lysozyme, and lactoferrin, which are naturally occurring proteins in human saliva. These enzymes help maintain a healthy oral environment by inhibiting the growth of odor-causing bacteria. The gel acts as a saliva substitute, utilizing a moisturizing base of glycerine and xylitol to coat and protect oral mucosal tissues for up to 4–6 hours. It is sugar-free, alcohol-free, and flavor-free, making it suitable for patients with sensitive oral tissues, including those undergoing cancer therapy or suffering from Sjögren's syndrome.
