Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Biothree OD is an orally disintegrating probiotic tablet developed by TOA BIOPHARMA, containing a synergistic combination of three live bacterial strains: *Enterococcus faecalis* T-110, *Clostridium butyricum* TO-A, and *Bacillus mesentericus* TO-A. This symbiotic formulation is designed to restore and maintain a healthy intestinal microbiota. The mechanism involves *B. mesentericus* and *E. faecalis* supporting the growth of *C. butyricum*, which produces butyric acid—a short-chain fatty acid that provides energy to colonocytes, maintains the intestinal barrier, and stimulates bowel motility. The OD (orally disintegrating) technology allows the tablet to dissolve quickly in the mouth, facilitating use in elderly patients with chronic constipation or individuals with swallowing difficulties. It is marketed in Japan for the treatment of constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal bloating associated with intestinal dysbiosis.
