Biotinylcholesterylformylhydrazide (MSB1) is a novel lipophilic cholesteryl-based biotin derivative. It functions as a key component within cationic liposomes, which are part of transfecting assemblies known as lipoplexes. MSB1 provides docking points for tribiotinylated transferrin-streptavidin accessories on these liposomes, facilitating the targeted delivery of plasmid DNA into cells, such as human cervical carcinoma (HeLa) cells, through receptor-mediated endocytosis.
