Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**BioVAT** is an investigational, off-the-shelf engineered human myocardium therapy developed for advanced heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. The living tissue implant consists of induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes and stromal cells formulated in a bovine collagen type I hydrogel to form contractile engineered heart muscle grafts. It is surgically placed on the epicardial surface of the beating heart, where the implanted myocardium is intended to vascularize, remuscularize the failing ventricular wall, augment wall thickness and contractile performance, and provide paracrine regenerative support. BioVAT is being evaluated in the open-label BioVAT-HF-DZHK20 Phase 1/2 study in patients with advanced or terminal heart failure. ([repairon.de](https://www.repairon.de/clinical-trials-1))
