Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BioVisc Ortho Single is an intra-articular viscosupplement developed by Biotech Vision Care for the treatment of pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee. It consists of a sterile, pyrogen-free, non-animal origin, highly purified, cross-linked sodium hyaluronate solution. As a single-injection therapy, it is designed to supplement the synovial fluid, restoring its viscoelastic properties, which are typically diminished in osteoarthritic joints. The mechanism of action is primarily mechanical, providing lubrication and shock absorption to reduce friction and mechanical stress within the joint, thereby alleviating pain and improving joint mobility. Additionally, it may stimulate the endogenous production of hyaluronic acid by synovial cells.
