BIOX-101 is a first-in-class recombinant protein drug candidate derived from a small protein found in the saliva of the tick Ixodes ricinus. It is being developed for the treatment of thromboinflammatory diseases, with its lead indication being intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke (ICH). BIOX-101 works by inhibiting activation of neutrophils and their release of extracellular DNA filaments (NETs), thereby reducing neuroinflammation and neuronal damage after hemorrhagic stroke. Additionally, it targets Factors XIa and XIIa in the intrinsic coagulation pathway to reduce clotting without increasing bleeding risk—unlike traditional anticoagulants. The drug has demonstrated both anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombotic effects in clinical studies, showing positive safety and efficacy signals in Phase 2a trials for ICH. Bioxodes SA is developing BIOX-101 as a potential breakthrough therapy for conditions where no approved treatments currently exist[1][2][4][5][6][7].
