Overview

Bioymifi is a small-molecule mimetic of the Tumor Necrosis Factor-Related Apoptosis-Inducing Ligand (TRAIL). It functions as a selective agonist of Death Receptor 5 (DR5, also known as TNFRSF10B), promoting the clustering and aggregation of the receptor to trigger the extrinsic apoptotic pathway. Discovered through high-throughput screening for agents that synergize with Smac mimetics, Bioymifi has been primarily studied for its potential as an anticancer therapy, demonstrating cytotoxicity in various cell lines such as HeLa. Additionally, research has identified roles for Bioymifi in modulating intestinal stem cell renewal, goblet cell exocytosis, and podocyte injury in diabetic kidney disease. Beyond its primary role as a DR5 agonist, some studies have identified it as an inhibitor of the interaction between VEGFR1 isoform 5 and beta-catenin, suggesting potential applications in treating diabetic microvascular complications.
