Overview

Biphasic insulin aspart + insulin aspart is a combination regimen in which patients receive both **biphasic insulin aspart** (a dual-release premixed insulin containing soluble and protamine-crystallized insulin aspart) and **insulin aspart** (a rapid-acting insulin analog). Biphasic insulin aspart products such as BIAsp 30, BIAsp 50, or BIAsp 70 combine fast-acting and intermediate-acting forms of insulin aspart in fixed ratios. **Insulin aspart** acts rapidly to control postprandial glucose spikes, while biphasic formulations provide both basal and prandial glycemic control[3][4]. The mechanism of action is glucose lowering via activation of the **insulin receptor**, promoting cellular uptake of glucose and inhibiting hepatic glucose production. This approach is used to intensify insulin therapy in people with diabetes mellitus, especially type 2 diabetes not optimally controlled by oral agents or basal insulin alone. Both components are recombinant human insulin analogs developed to mimic physiological insulin secretion in response to meals and for basal needs.
