Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Biphasic insulin lispro (also known as mixed protamine zinc recombinant human insulin lispro) is a premixed insulin analog formulation containing a mixture of rapid-acting insulin lispro and intermediate-acting insulin lispro protamine suspension. It is used to improve glycemic control in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The rapid-acting component (insulin lispro) provides postprandial glucose control with a rapid onset of action, while the intermediate-acting component (insulin lispro protamine) provides basal insulin coverage. It was originally developed by Eli Lilly under the brand name Humalog Mix, and biosimilar versions have been developed by companies such as Gan & Lee, Tonghua Dongbao, and Geropharm.
