Overview

Birch bark extract is a natural extract derived from the bark of birch trees, primarily Betula pendula and Betula pubescens. It is characterized by its rich content of pentacyclic triterpenes, including betulin, betulinic acid, lupeol, erythrodiol, and oleanolic acid. This extract possesses a range of biological activities, such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, antimycotic, and wound-healing properties. In its pharmaceutical formulation, known as Filsuvez (or Oleogel-S10), it is developed as a topical gel to promote the healing of skin lesions by modulating inflammatory mediators and stimulating the migration and differentiation of keratinocytes.
