Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Birch extract is a plant-derived herbal ingredient utilized as a component of a multi-ingredient oral mixture for the prevention of recurrent uncomplicated cystitis (urinary tract infections). In clinical research associated with PharmaMol SRL, it is administered in combination with arbutin, berberine, and D-mannose. The extract is believed to exert antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects that, in synergy with the other components, inhibit the adhesion of bacteria such as E. coli to the urothelium. A 2018 randomized study (Genovese et al.) demonstrated that this combination therapy significantly reduced the frequency of cystitis episodes and lowered bacterial loads compared to standard proanthocyanidin treatments.
