Birch pollen-galactomannan conjugate is an investigational allergen immunotherapy (AIT) developed for the treatment of pollen-food allergy syndrome (PFAS) and oral allergy syndrome (OAS) associated with birch pollinosis. The therapeutic consists of birch pollen allergens, primarily the major allergen Bet v 1, covalently linked to galactomannan, a polysaccharide derived from sources such as guar gum. This conjugation strategy is designed to reduce the allergen's IgE-binding capacity, thereby minimizing the risk of systemic allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) during administration, while preserving the ability to stimulate T-cell responses and induce immunological tolerance. The primary clinical goal is to increase the threshold for allergic reactions to cross-reactive foods, such as raw apples, in patients sensitized to birch pollen.
