Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Birinapant + carboplatin + paclitaxel** is a multi-drug chemotherapy combination evaluated primarily in oncology. - **Birinapant** is a small-molecule SMAC (Second Mitochondria-derived Activator of Caspases) mimetic that antagonizes inhibitor of apoptosis proteins (IAPs), thereby promoting apoptosis in cancer cells. - **Carboplatin** is a platinum-based DNA crosslinker used to induce DNA damage leading to apoptosis, and - **Paclitaxel** is a tubulin-binding chemotherapeutic which stabilizes microtubules, causing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. This combination has shown synergistic effects (particularly birinapant plus paclitaxel) in preclinical cancer models (including ovarian and pancreatic cancer), and sequential or schedule-dependent dosing may optimize efficacy and reduce antagonism between components. Birinapant has been developed by Tetralogic; carboplatin and paclitaxel are generic and manufactured by multiple companies[1][3][5][7][9].
