BIRM

BIRM (Biological Immune Response Modulator) is an orally active herbal extract derived from an Amazonian plant in Ecuador, traditionally used as an alternative medicine for cancer treatment. Research indicates that BIRM possesses potent antiproliferative and antimetastatic activity, particularly against prostate cancer. Its mechanism of action is multi-targeted, involving the destabilization and proteasomal degradation of the androgen receptor (AR), inhibition of the AKT survival pathway (specifically reducing p-AKT levels), and induction of apoptosis through the activation of caspase-8 via death receptor and FADD-mediated pathways. Additionally, BIRM has been shown to inhibit hyaluronidase activity and bind to the oncoprotein GT198 (PSMC3IP), which is involved in tumor angiogenesis. While it is widely used as a supplement, its clinical efficacy and safety continue to be evaluated in preclinical and early-stage research settings.
