Bis-T-23 is a small molecule dynamin activator that promotes the oligomerization and assembly of dynamin into higher-order structures. Unlike dynamin inhibitors such as dynasore, Bis-T-23 enhances dynamin's GTPase activity by facilitating its self-assembly into rings and helices. In research settings, it has been investigated for its ability to stabilize the actin cytoskeleton in podocytes, potentially offering a therapeutic approach for proteinuric kidney diseases like focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). More recently, it has been studied in oncology to understand the role of dynamin-mediated endocytosis and exosome biogenesis in cancer cell proliferation and intercellular communication. In certain cancer models, such as pancreatic cancer and glioblastoma, Bis-T-23 has been observed to influence exosome production and cell growth, though its effects on proliferation can vary depending on the cell type and context.
