Bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC) is a natural curcuminoid found in the rhizomes of *Curcuma longa* (turmeric). As a demethoxy derivative of curcumin, it is characterized by higher chemical stability and potentially superior bioavailability compared to curcumin. BDMC exhibits pleiotropic pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antineoplastic activities. In oncology, it has been shown to induce DNA damage and inhibit DNA repair proteins such as BRCA1 and MGMT. Furthermore, it modulates the tumor microenvironment by increasing CD8+ T-cell infiltration and reducing myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), showing synergistic potential when combined with PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint inhibitors. In neurodegenerative research, BDMC has demonstrated potential for Alzheimer's disease by enhancing amyloid-beta phagocytosis through the upregulation of MGAT3 and vitamin D receptors, and by acting as an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor.
