Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bisoprolol + levoamlodipine is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) antihypertensive medication developed by Jiangxi Shimei Pharmaceutical. It combines bisoprolol fumarate, a highly cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist, with levoamlodipine maleate, the chirally pure (S)-enantiomer of the dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker amlodipine. Bisoprolol reduces blood pressure by decreasing heart rate and cardiac output through the inhibition of beta-1 receptors in the heart. Levoamlodipine, the active isomer of amlodipine, induces vasodilation by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle cells, thereby reducing peripheral vascular resistance. This combination therapy provides a synergistic effect by targeting two distinct physiological pathways of blood pressure regulation, offering improved efficacy and simplified dosing for patients with essential hypertension. It was approved by the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in late 2023.
