Overview
This combination therapy involves the co-administration of bisoprolol, a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker, and Qi Shen Yi Qi (QSYQ), a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula. QSYQ is composed of extracts from *Astragalus membranaceus*, *Salvia miltiorrhiza*, *Panax notoginseng*, and *Dalbergia odorifera*. The combination is primarily investigated for its cardioprotective effects against anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity in patients undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Bisoprolol works by reducing heart rate and myocardial oxygen demand, thereby mitigating hemodynamic stress. QSYQ is thought to provide synergistic benefits by improving microcirculation, reducing oxidative stress, and inhibiting myocardial apoptosis through the modulation of various signaling pathways, including the inhibition of caspase-3 and the activation of PPAR-alpha.
