Bisperoxovanadium(picolinate), commonly referred to as **bpV(pic)**, is a small molecule coordination complex that serves as a potent and relatively selective inhibitor of protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs). It is most notably recognized for its high potency in inhibiting **PTEN (Phosphatase and tensin homolog)**, a major negative regulator of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. By inhibiting PTEN, bpV(pic) facilitates the accumulation of phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5)-trisphosphate (PIP3), leading to the hyperactivation of Akt and subsequent downstream signaling that promotes cell survival, proliferation, and metabolic activity.
