Overview

BITS7201A is a novel, humanized bispecific monoclonal antibody designed to bind and neutralize both interleukin-13 (IL-13) and interleukin-17 (IL-17). These cytokines are implicated in the pathogenesis of asthma—IL-13 as a type 2 inflammatory mediator associated with airway hyperresponsiveness and mucus production, and IL-17 as a driver of neutrophilic inflammation linked to greater disease severity and steroid resistance. The drug was developed for the treatment of mild atopic asthma. In phase 1 clinical studies, BITS7201A demonstrated pharmacokinetic properties consistent with IgG monoclonal antibodies and showed evidence of target engagement through biomarker changes. However, it was associated with a high incidence of anti-drug antibody formation[1][5]. The development program included both subcutaneous and intravenous administration in healthy volunteers and patients with mild asthma[2][4].
