Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The BBIBP Bivalent Oral Poliomyelitis Vaccine (BBIBP bOPV) is a live attenuated oral vaccine developed by Beijing Bio-Institute Biological Products (BBIBP) in collaboration with PATH. It contains a suspension of attenuated poliovirus Sabin strains of types 1 and 3. The vaccine is indicated for active immunization against poliomyelitis caused by these specific types, primarily for use in routine immunization and supplementary immunization activities (SIAs) in children. It received WHO prequalification following a Phase 3 clinical trial in Kenya, which demonstrated its safety and immunogenicity compared to existing WHO-prequalified bOPVs. The vaccine is intended to help meet global demand for bOPV, particularly in polio-endemic and high-risk low-income countries.
