Overview

A live-attenuated, bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (bOPV) containing Sabin strains of poliovirus types 1 and 3. Developed by the Institute of Medical Biology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (IMBCAMS), this vaccine is designed to provide protection against poliomyelitis by inducing both systemic and intestinal mucosal immunity. It is available in both liquid and dragee candy formulations. The vaccine was developed as part of the global effort to switch from trivalent OPV (tOPV) to bOPV following the eradication of wild poliovirus type 2. Clinical studies have evaluated its long-term immunity duration and effectiveness when used in various sequential immunization schedules, including co-administration with inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) boosters.
