Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Biyan Qingdu Granula (BYQD) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula that has been studied for various applications, particularly in the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after radiotherapy. It is also referred to as Biyan Qingdu Granule in some literature. It received approval in China on August 27, 2019. The medication appears to be manufactured by Hutchison Whampoa Guangzhou Baiyunshan Chinese Medicine Co. BYQD has been studied for its pharmacological effects, particularly in relation to nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Research has shown that Biyan Qingdu Granula drug-containing serum (BQG-DS) inhibits the proliferation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells through two primary mechanisms: induction of apoptosis and arrest of the cell cycle at the G1 phase. These effects were observed to be both time and concentration-dependent in studies involving nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell lines CNE1, CNE2, TWO3, and C666-1. A recent study published in February 2024 used UPLC/Q-TOF MS to analyze the chemical composition of BYQD, identifying 62 identical ingredients when comparing the sample solution and intestinal absorbed solution. Some of the potential active ingredients identified include Quercetin, Luteolin, Eupatilin, Magnoflorine, and Acacetin. Biyan Qingdu Granula has been studied for several clinical applications, primarily post-radiotherapy treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, where it investigates its effectiveness in attenuating acute nose and oral damage in patients undergoing radiotherapy. It has also been studied for secretory otitis media, with a 2004 study comparing it with ambroxol hydrochloride. In this application, the dosage was reported as 20g taken twice daily for a 2-week period. Network pharmacological analysis has identified several core targets for BYQD, including TP53, STAT3, MAPK1, SRC, and AKT1. Key signaling pathways that may be involved in BYQD's therapeutic effects include PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, Pathways in cancer, Lipid and atherosclerosis pathways, Proteoglycans in cancer, and MAPK signaling pathway. Biyan Qingdu Granula is classified as a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula and is categorized as an herbal medicine.
