Overview

BJ044 is a recombinant form of ulinastatin, a human serine protease inhibitor, developed by Bao Pharma using synthetic biology to replace traditional extraction from human urine.[1][3][5] Ulinastatin exhibits broad anti-inflammatory and organ-protective effects by inhibiting multiple proteolytic enzymes, including trypsin, elastase, and kallikrein, thereby reducing protease-mediated tissue damage in systemic inflammatory states.[1] Clinically, ulinastatin is used in conditions such as acute pancreatitis, sepsis, and postoperative systemic inflammatory response, and BJ044 aims to provide a more consistent, scalable, and potentially safer supply of this biologic through recombinant manufacturing.[1][5]
