Overview

BJY-803 is an investigational small molecule inhibitor of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), developed by the Second Military Medical University (Naval Medical University) in China for the treatment of hyperlipidemia. The drug acts by targeting the PCSK9 protein, which normally binds to and promotes the degradation of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) on the surface of hepatocytes. By inhibiting PCSK9, BJY-803 increases the density of LDLRs available to clear low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) from the bloodstream, thereby lowering plasma cholesterol levels. Developed as an oral tablet, BJY-803 aims to provide a more convenient alternative to the injectable monoclonal antibodies currently used for PCSK9 inhibition.
