BK-FLU

BK-FLU is an investigational cell-culture-derived inactivated influenza vaccine developed by The Research Foundation for Microbial Diseases of Osaka University (BIKEN). Unlike traditional influenza vaccines that are produced in embryonated chicken eggs, BK-FLU is manufactured using cell-culture technology, which offers advantages such as a more scalable production process and the avoidance of egg-adaptive mutations that can compromise vaccine efficacy. The vaccine is designed to provide protection against seasonal influenza by inducing the production of neutralizing antibodies against viral hemagglutinin. It is currently undergoing Phase II clinical evaluation in Japan, where it is administered as a subcutaneous injection to healthy adults.
