Overview

BK-PIFA is an inactivated influenza A (H5N1) vaccine developed by The Research Foundation for Microbial Diseases of Osaka University (BIKEN). It is designed to provide immunity against the H5N1 avian influenza virus, which has significant pandemic potential. The vaccine is typically administered via subcutaneous injection. Clinical development in Japan has included Phase II/III trials to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of the formulation in healthy adult volunteers. As a monovalent inactivated vaccine, it aims to induce protective antibody titers against the hemagglutinin and neuraminidase antigens of the specific H5N1 strain used in the formulation.
