Overview

BK-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (BK CTLs) is an adoptive cell therapy being developed by New York Medical College for the treatment of refractory BK virus infection in immunocompromised patients, particularly children, adolescents, and young adults following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) or solid organ transplantation. The therapy consists of donor-derived T cells that are manufactured using the IFN-γ Cytokine Capture System automated on the CliniMACS Prodigy device. These T cells are specifically selected to target BK virus antigens, including the large T antigen (TAg) and viral capsid protein 1 (VP1). By infusing these virus-specific T cells, the therapy aims to restore cellular immunity against the BK virus and facilitate viral clearance in patients who have failed standard antiviral treatments.
