Blédilait Biofer

Blédilait Biofer is an investigational infant milk formula developed by Blédina, a subsidiary of Danone, specifically formulated for the management of latent iron deficiency in infants aged 6 to 12 months. The product consists of Blédilait follow-on milk enriched with a proprietary iron compound known as Biofer, administered at a concentration of 2 mg of iron per 100 kcal. The formulation was designed to enhance iron bioavailability and improve iron status, as measured by serum ferritin levels, compared to standard ferrous sulphate-supplemented formulas. Clinical evaluation included a randomized trial (NCT00554814) in France, which was intended to demonstrate the superiority of the Biofer compound; however, the study was subsequently suspended, and the product's development for this specific therapeutic indication appears to have been halted.
