BL-1220

BL-1220 is an orally administered, novel composition of sodium alginate being developed as a hepato-protective therapy for acute and chronic liver failure conditions. It was in-licensed by BioLineRx under a strategic collaboration with Novartis and is based on technology developed by academic inventors at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Hadassah Medical Center.[2][10] Preclinical studies in animal models of liver impairment suggest that BL-1220 can improve and restore liver function, potentially by forming a protective barrier in the gastrointestinal tract and modulating exposure to hepatotoxic factors, thereby promoting rapid liver regeneration, although its precise molecular mechanism of action has not been fully characterized.[2][10]
