BL-7010 is a novel, non-absorbable, orally available polymer developed for the treatment of celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. Its mechanism of action involves specific binding to gliadin, the immunogenic component of gluten found in wheat, barley, and rye. By sequestering gliadin in the gastrointestinal tract, BL-7010 prevents its enzymatic cleavage and subsequent immune activation. The resulting BL-7010-gliadin complex is excreted from the body without being absorbed systemically. Preclinical studies have shown that BL-7010 effectively reduces gluten-induced intestinal damage—such as villus atrophy and intraepithelial lymphocytosis—without interfering with nutrient absorption or digestive enzymes. The drug has demonstrated safety and tolerability in animal models and has advanced to early-phase clinical trials[1][2][3][4][5].
