Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Biolingus is developing **BL OPUS III**, a sublingual formulation of the GLP-1 receptor agonist **exenatide**, for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Utilizing the proprietary **OPUS (Oral Peptide Utility System)** technology, this formulation aims to provide a non-invasive alternative to traditional injectable GLP-1 therapies. Exenatide works by mimicking the action of the endogenous glucagon-like peptide-1, stimulating glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppressing glucagon release, and slowing gastric emptying. The sublingual delivery is designed to improve patient compliance and accessibility, particularly in emerging markets where affordability and ease of administration are critical. The drug is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
